Business of the Month: Peace Pantry

We’re proud to feature our latest business of the month: the Peace Pantry!

The Peace Pantry is an all-volunteer food pantry that has provided groceries and other essentials to needy families in the Cedar Hill, Dittmer, Catawissa, Ware and Grubville areas of Jefferson County since the 1990’s.

As the Peace Pantry continues to grow, in 2015, they applied to the Jefferson Memorial Community Foundation for a grant to build a larger facility. Thanks to that grant and a very generous community they were able to move into a new building in September. It is located at 8100 South Industrial Drive in Cedar Hill. The number of families the Peace Pantry is serving is now over 300 for an increase of about 30% since moving in September! Today, they are seriously in need of more volunteers to help in the grocery – particularly on Thursday mornings when they give out food.

The Peace Pantry added a thrift store in the new building to sell clothes and many other types of donated items. Donations are accepted Monday thru Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The proceeds go to support pantry operations. Prices are very reasonable. They need volunteers to help with sorting donated items and in the thrift store itself. Thrift store hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday thru Saturday. They also have bag sales on the first Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Grocery store bags can be filled with clothes and bought for $2 per bag.
